Where Experience Belongs: Our Commitment to an Age-Friendly Workplace

We’ve got some meaningful news to share. Events East Group, alongside Scotiabank Centre and The Halifax Convention Centre, has been re-certified as a Certified Age-Friendly Employer by the Age-Friendly Institute.

This certification recognizes organizations that are committed to creating workplaces where employees aged 50 and over are valued, respected, and supported, free from age bias or discrimination. It is an important milestone that speaks directly to who we are and how we show up for our people every day. Events East was certified in 2023; this renewal reflects our continued commitment to age-friendly workplace practices.

Certified Age Friendly Employer (CAFE): What Does This Certification Represent?

The Certified Age-Friendly Employer program is led by the Age-Friendly Institute, a global nonprofit organization dedicated to improving workplace inclusion for older workers. Since its launch in 2006, the program has become the world’s leading certification for employers committed to being great places to work for employees aged 50 and over.

At its core, the program helps job seekers identify employers who:

  • Objectively consider candidates based on skills and experience.
  • Actively work to eliminate age bias.
  • Value knowledge, reliability, and institutional wisdom.
  • Support multi-generational teams and long-term career growth.

For organizations, certification represents a long-term commitment to fair hiring practices, inclusive workplace culture, and people-first decision-making.

Why Age-Friendly Workplaces Matter

Today’s workforce spans more generations than ever before. Creating an age-friendly workplace is not about supporting one group. It is about building teams where experience and fresh perspectives work together.

In our organization, experience matters. The knowledge, mentorship, and leadership that come from long careers strengthen our teams and enhance the guest experience, helping us deliver welcoming and inclusive environments for everyone who walks through our doors. This approach also supports a stronger and more sustainable workforce by improving retention, strengthening our talent pipeline, and preserving institutional knowledge across our teams.

Renewing our Certified Age Friendly Employer designation reinforces our commitment to:

  • Inclusive hiring and recruitment practices.
  • Respect at every stage of a career.
  • Retaining institutional knowledge.
  • Supporting employees as they grow, evolve, and lead.
Age Friendly Across the Organization

A Broader Commitment to Inclusion

Being a Certified Age-Friendly Employer is part of a larger commitment to inclusion, accessibility, and excellence. That commitment is reflected in several certifications we proudly hold, including:

Each certification represents a different aspect of how we create safe, welcoming, and people-centered environments. Together, they reflect our ongoing effort to listen, improve, and lead with intention, always with people at the heart of what we do.

Looking Ahead

Renewing this certification is not a finish line – it is part of an ongoing journey. We will continue to learn, evolve, and strengthen our practices to ensure the Halifax Convention Centre, Scotiabank Centre and Events East remains a welcoming and supportive workplace for employees of all ages.

We are proud to be recognized as a Certified Age Friendly Employer, and even more proud of the people who make our workplace what it is. Because when we value experience, everyone benefits.
